5 online services for checking a text for uniqueness
This article is 9 years old — prices and terms may have changed.
From this article you will learn about the online services we find most convenient for checking content for uniqueness, correctness and readability. We have tried many services, and the handiest of them are described here.
Every day we receive an enormous amount of information from the internet. It is a boundless sea of the most varied content of the most varied quality: articles, YouTube clips, photographs, drawings and the rest.
Every time we open an article or start a video, we want to see something interesting, something we have not seen before, useful information that will entertain or teach us. So the content on a site has to be unique. But what does "unique" mean where a site's content is concerned? It means that the content must contain no plagiarism and must be useful, interesting and valuable to the user. Then people will come back to that site again and again, which will make it popular.
If you look at the question not from the user's side but from the search engines', a site with content that is not unique may either not be indexed — in which case users will not find it — or, worse still, be blocked.
The uniqueness of content is usually measured as a percentage. Of course, if a text is 100% unique that is an excellent result. But 90% is considered acceptable too, especially since different services can show results for one and the same text that differ by several percentage points.
There are plenty of services online that measure the uniqueness of a text, check spelling, the level of keyword stuffing and so on. Here is a brief word about each.
1. text.ru — a free, convenient service for checking a text for uniqueness. Alongside that it checks spelling and the levels of "water" and keyword stuffing in the text.
To speed the check up it is best to register on the site; the service says so itself: register and the check will go faster. Before signing in there were 24 texts ahead of this one in the queue, and after signing in — 10. Besides the checking service the site has rewriting and copywriting exchanges, an article shop and more.
The result of checking this text for uniqueness is 100%.
2. content-watch.ru — a fairly convenient service with which you can not only find out how unique your text is but also protect texts you have already published. To use everything the service offers, you have to register on the site.
According to this check the text of the article is 100% unique.
3. advego.ru — the inconvenience of this service is that it requires a program to be installed, and a captcha may appear on top of that.
After registering on the site you can run an online spelling check and a detailed semantic analysis of the text. Checking this text for uniqueness online, unfortunately, did not work.
4. pr-cy.ru — another free service which, however, does not let an unregistered user check fewer than 10 or more than 1,000 characters. Besides that, a captcha has to be entered anew with every check. The uniqueness of this text is 100%.
5. plagiarisma.ru — the service offers checks in 190 languages. During a check the text is broken into phrases, and next to each one it says whether that phrase is unique or not. If a phrase is not unique, the source with a similar phrase is given. But that does not necessarily mean the phrase is plagiarism. It may simply be a sentence similar in meaning. As in our case, for example.
The check showed an unusually low percentage of uniqueness — 84%. But it turned out to be about just one distantly similar phrase from a text on a site about… branded whisky. So this check cannot be considered entirely reliable.
Every text published in our blog is checked with text.ru and content-watch.ru. In our view these are the two most convenient services for checking the uniqueness of texts. You can use this article to pick the service that suits your own work.
Good luck, and unique texts to you!
