Questions about servers and sites
Short answers to what people ask before choosing a service.
Which services are available in Warsaw and which in Zurich?
Warsaw has everything: Linux VPS, Windows VPS, dedicated servers and backup storage. Our two Warsaw sites, PL-1 and PL-2, look like a single location at order time.
Zurich has Linux VPS only: dedicated servers for the Swiss site are being prepared.
Server administration is not tied to a location at all: our administrators also work on a server that does not stand with us.
Can several of our servers be linked into one network?
Yes, within a single location. Servers belonging to one client in Warsaw are joined into a private network, inside one site and between PL-1 and PL-2 as well, because our own redundant fibre connects them. In Zurich the network is built inside CH-1.
There is no private network between Warsaw and Zurich: different countries, different sites. The "live server in one country, copies in another" arrangement is built not with a network but with backup storage.
Discuss the layout before ordering: it decides what goes where.
Can an already running project be moved to you?
Yes, and moves come in two different kinds.
A website and mail from another host is the other half of the site. It explains what moves automatically and what by hand: website migration.
A whole server is administration work: move the data, bring the environment up, check the project after the switch. That is server administration, estimated in hours and paid for separately from the server itself. Describe the server and what runs on it, and we will state the scope before starting.
How is backup storage different from a disk on the server?
The copy is not kept on the same server. If it sits on the main server’s disk, a server failure can take both the project and its backup with it.
Backup hosting runs on a separate Ceph cluster, physically independent from your server. It provides space for copies but does not create them for you: you set what to copy and when, or order that setup from our administrators separately.
Need a website rather than a server?
Hosting, domains and the website builder run in the same data centers with the same support in four languages, and there is no server to administer.
