Mozilla will cut back HTTP support in Firefox

According to the proposed plan of action, the community will choose a date after which some new capabilities of the Mozilla browser will be available only to sites that work over HTTPS.

Also, access to various capabilities of the browser will gradually be limited for insecure sites, especially those related to security and personal data.

One of the main goals, the developers say, is to hint to webmasters that using SSL certificates is good both for site owners and for their users. So the move to a secure protocol should be planned for the near future.

All the more so as the choice of certificates is now quite wide: with us, for instance, you can buy an SSL certificate from $9 a year, which is cheaper than the cost of registering or renewing a domain name for the site.
