Black Friday 2019: how do you save money on it?
This article is 6 years old — prices and terms may have changed.
The tradition of holding sales at the end of November appeared in the USA back at the end of the century before last. And since they were held on the day after Thanksgiving (marked on the last Thursday of November), from 1966 onwards this boom in sales came to be called Black Friday — because of the enormous traffic jams around the shops in Philadelphia, as it happens.
Here the tradition appeared comparatively recently, but for at least ten years now practically every company on the market has been offering solid discounts on its goods or services on that day.
In 2019 Black Friday falls on 29 November. That is very soon, so if you are planning to save money and are setting some aside for large purchases in the sales, it is worth preparing for the big day in advance.
Saving money at the peak of the sales

In the USA and Europe Black Friday is first of all a chance to clear the shops' warehouses before the Christmas buying rush — hence the colossal discounts. Retailers here have no such need, so the discounts may be:
- Small (5–10%, against discounts of 30, 50 or 80% in shops in the USA).
- "Imaginary" (the price of the item creeps up over the preceding week or two, so that this increase is what the discount cuts away).
So, to genuinely save money on Black Friday, prepare for it in advance:
- Draw up a rough list of the purchases you want to make. Bear in mind that there will almost certainly be no discounts on new arrivals and flagship models — they will sell perfectly well before the New Year anyway.
- Study and be sure to record their prices in the shops where you were planning to buy (it is best to have two or three options for each item).
- Look at what people said about last year's Black Friday discounts in those shops — for large retailers such analyses are usually not hard to find.
All of this takes time, but it gives you the chance to offset the marketing tricks completely or in part and genuinely save — even if not as much as the advertising banners on the shops promise you.
Hosting discounts on Black Friday

Above we talked about goods, but does it make sense to buy services on Black Friday, especially services as specific as hosting? It turns out that it does.
- First, with hosting only honest discounts are possible, and they really can be large. Here you can be sure the company has not raised its prices beforehand to keep the margin.
- Second, the discounts apply both to new orders and to renewals of a hosting service. So a purchase on Black Friday is worth considering both for a new customer and for someone who bought hosting earlier and wants to renew it.
Naturally, that applies to companies that provide good services and care about their reputation.
And we are already preparing special offers for our current and future customers for Black Friday — so everyone will have a chance to save on hosting :)
We wish you a great mood and worthwhile purchases on Black Friday!
