Tools for a web developer — 7 useful and convenient services and resources

Web developers are always chasing productivity. At the same time, everyone wants to make their work simpler. That is what the many tools for web developers are for.

New tools appear all the time. We will tell you about the ones thousands of professionals have already tried.

DesignBombs — almost everything about WordPress

This popular site holds the largest collection of material on working with WordPress. Designers and developers talk on the project's forum. They discuss standard problems and unusual technical solutions. The information on DesignBombs can speed up building a site, solve its technical problems and extend what it does.

The DesignBombs forum is in English. That makes it easier for people from different countries to understand one another.

The authors have put material on every aspect of web development on the site. If you build sites on WordPress and your latest project has run into trouble, head to DesignBombs.

IMCreator — a platform for building sites

This is a powerful platform for building sites that is easy to learn. With IMCreator you can make a resource of any type on any subject. More than 11 million people around the world use the service, and the figure keeps growing.

Here practically any user can work on a site without even knowing any code.

Of course, a good tool has to be paid for. The service's creators recommend the PRO plan at 350 USD a year. For that money customers get their own site and everything it needs to work properly.

Note that such a plan will not always pay off: for some resources the cost of a domain and hosting is much lower than the price of an annual IMCreator subscription.

Codester — a marketplace

This is a large trading platform where people buy and sell all sorts of tools for non-standard tasks. Here you can find:

• PHP scripts;
• custom code for specific solutions;
• templates of standard applications;
• unique site templates;
• all kinds of plugins for sites on different content management systems.

The resource will be useful for sites on various CMS platforms and frameworks. It helps save time and deliver more complex projects successfully.

BugHerd — will find the errors in your code

Debugging code at the development stage is one of the biggest problems a developer faces. It is made harder by the fact that hiring a tester is not always an option.

The problem is solved by BugHerd. It lets you run the code and analyse the feedback from the user's side. When something breaks, the developer is sent a report with detailed information about the problem. The service is built on cloud technology. There are many extra functions:

• delegating tasks;
• exchanging feedback;
• filtering by problem type and so on.

After the trial period the monthly subscription costs 29 USD.

OverAPI

On this site you can find hints on any question to do with building sites. The material in this huge library is very conveniently structured. Just a couple of clicks will find the code you need, script templates and much more.

Scratchpad — an editor for HTML and CSS

A capable and convenient text editor for developers. It works in real time and shows immediately how the code will be displayed. The editor can close all tags correctly by itself.

Viewport Resizer — testing sites for responsiveness

The service helps check how sites will look on different devices. To check a site, drag the blue Click or Bookmark button from the service's tab onto the tab of the resource you are testing.

At the top you will see a bar of icons standing for different devices.

These are only some of the useful services. We will keep adding to the selection.
