The data center in Zurich where our servers stand

The Host4Biz site in Switzerland, for projects that need a separate jurisdiction and shorter routes to audiences in Western Europe.

What this site is

ZRH01 is a commercial data center in Zurich that holds our equipment for the Swiss services. The site is run by Templus, an operator of data centers across Europe.

  • Zurich, Switzerland
  • Operated by Templus, site code ZRH01
  • Operator Smart Hands, 24/7

Engineering infrastructure

Power, cooling, fire suppression and access control on the site are the responsibility of the operator, Templus.

Power

5.8 MW is supplied to the site. The central UPS is built N+N, and every hall is fed by two separate routes. The generators for the whole building are N+1.

Cooling

Cooling is water-based, on the site’s own chilled water loop. Temperature and humidity stay within the ASHRAE recommendations.

Fire safety

Aspirating smoke detection above the raised floor and below it. Gas suppression is released only on a doubly confirmed signal: one detector is not enough.

Access and security

Guards on site around the clock, a perimeter fence, smart-card entry, video surveillance, door-opening alarms and central alarm monitoring.

Connectivity

The site is carrier neutral: several carriers are present in the meet-me room, and the data center operator does not restrict connecting to them.

Standards and certificates

Certified Tier III, 4–15 kW per rack, 100% renewable energy and continuous energy monitoring. The certificates are ISO 27001 and ISO 14001.

Host4Biz servers in Zurich

CH-1 stands on its own as a Swiss location: the servers and the network side of the service are ours.

Our own hardware

The equipment in Switzerland belongs to Host4Biz. We decide how the servers are configured and keep spare capacity on them.

Two paths to the server

Duplicated links run to the racks and the switches are installed in pairs. The layout keeps the network up when one link or one switch fails.

Routing we control

Host4Biz runs its own external links and autonomous system, so it controls how traffic is routed. Between the racks the network runs at 100 Gbps.

An isolated segment for a project

One client’s servers can be joined into a separate local segment inside CH-1. That internal traffic stays in the data center and never reaches the public internet.

Why put a server in Zurich

Jurisdiction, a second country for the reserve, and routes to a Western European audience.

Swiss jurisdiction

Switzerland is not in the EU. For some projects that is the whole reason to keep the data here rather than in Warsaw or Frankfurt.

A different country and power grid

Zurich can carry a backup copy, monitoring or a disaster-recovery site in another country, and not in the next hall of the same city.

Closer to Western Europe

For an audience in Switzerland, Austria and southern Germany, Zurich is usually closer than the Polish location. Check the latency to your own audience before you choose.

Servers in Switzerland and Poland

The Swiss VPS runs in Zurich. The Polish VPS plans and the dedicated servers run in Warsaw.

Questions about the CH-1 site in Zurich

About the Host4Biz site in Switzerland.

Where are the Host4Biz servers in Switzerland?

In Zurich, at the CH-1 site in the Templus ZRH01 data center. We have one Swiss site: there is no second location in the country, so a redundancy scheme inside Switzerland is not possible — that takes a second country.

Is a server in Zurich more expensive than in Warsaw?

Yes, the Swiss plans cost more than the Polish ones. If jurisdiction does not matter to the project, compare the prices on the service pages: Linux VPS in Switzerland and Linux VPS in Warsaw.

Does data in Switzerland fall under European data protection rules?

Switzerland is not in the EU and has a data protection act of its own; its revised version has applied since September 2023. In January 2024 the European Commission confirmed that the level of protection in Switzerland is equivalent to the European one, so personal data can be transferred from the EU to Switzerland without additional safeguards.

Whether that suits your case is for your lawyer to judge: we are responsible for the site and the server, not for a legal assessment of your project.

Where are the backups of a Swiss server kept?

What a plan includes and how often a copy is taken is a property of the service rather than of the site: it is on the Linux VPS in Switzerland page.

From the site's point of view what matters is something else: the daily copies included in the plan sit where the data itself sits — in Zurich. They never leave the site.

Backup hosting, on the other hand, is a separate service and runs in Warsaw only. If a project moved to Zurich for the jurisdiction, everything you send to that storage will sit inside the EU: agree on such an arrangement with us before ordering.

Who has access to the server — the data center engineers or us?

Templus is responsible for the building: power, cooling, security and physical access to the halls. The servers in the racks are ours, and you are the one who configures them — a Linux VPS is self-managed and the root access is yours.

The site engineers touch the hardware at our request, when hands on the spot are needed. That does not give them access to your data on the server.

What does Tier III certification mean?

Tier III certifies the site itself and confirms the level of its engineering infrastructure. It does not replace the terms of the service or a Host4Biz SLA.
