How to choose the right certificate?

1. Validation type

When you order a domain, the Certification Authority can check a domain, a company or perform an extended validation of a company.

Domain Validated (DV) SSL Certificate is the best option for private customers, while Organization Validated SSL Certificate is the best choice for companies as it will increase the user's trust to your company's website.

More information about validation process can be found here.

2. Subdomain support

Certificates supporting subdomains are called Wildcard. In addition to the main domain.com and www.domain.com, they are valid for 1st level subdomains like blog.domain.com, forum.domain.com.

Attention: the certificate is not valid for 2nd level subdomains like test.forum.domain.com!

3. Brand

Many Certificate Authorities offer certificates, some of them being more popular than others. We offer certificates of three most popular Certificate Authorities: Thawte, Comodo (Sectigo) and Geotrust, so our customers can always choose the provider they trust the most.

What is an SSL certificate?

SSL-certificate is an e-document that:

  • Confirms server reliability by creating a secure connection between client and server;
  • Confirms serious intentions of the company-owner of the website: certificate costs money and is issued according to certain procedures that make it not a simple task;
  • Increases customer's trust to the source - seeing green address bar, users understand that such server is different from normal websites;
  • Increases safety - thanks to secure connection between client and server it is impossible to intercept or modify information during transmission;
  • Provides new possibilities. For example, many payment systems connect only to secured SSL websites.

Types of SSL certificates

There are different kinds of SSL certificates. The most popular are:

  • Domain validation certificates that require only the domain name check. These are basic certificates that suit small websites;
  • Wildcard certificates that require only the domain name check. Such certificate is valid for domain.com, support.domain.com, billing.domain.com, etc., and is suitable for large projects;
  • Organization validated SSL certificates. In addition to domain name check, this type of certificates requires verification of documents of the company purchasing it. These certificates are highly trusted, as the Certification Authority verifies the company and are the best choice for organizations that need to secure user's information within an online project;
  • Extended validation certificates. Serious certificate for serious business – it is the most highly trusted type of certificates which includes the green address bar. The price is high but not an obstacle for companies that value their reputation and their customer's trust.
